Nursing home specialist McCarthy & Stone seeks planning permission for 45 flats in Lymm

Care home specialist McCarthy & Stone has applied for planning permission for a new development in Lymm involving 45 apartments.

Describing itself as the UK’s leading developer and manager of care homes, McCarthy & Stone has submitted a planning application to Warrington Borough Council to develop land at Watercress Farm, Lymm with high quality pensioner housing.

The plans represent an excellent opportunity to develop specialist housing for the elderly on a site allocated for new homes in the emerging Warrington Local Plan. The apartment development includes properties for private sale, rental and part-letting. The plans propose the construction of 45 Retirement Living apartments set amongst attractive landscaped gardens with on-site parking. The proposed development is situated in a sustainable location near the center of Lymm, with all the amenities the village has to offer within a short distance.

McCarthy Stone conducted pre-bid public consultation with the local community on its proposals, including a virtual exhibit from May 6-20, 2022, which more than 2,000 residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited to view.

In response to the consultation, several local people have expressed interest in moving into the development once it is completed.

Ian Wilkins, McCarthy Stone Divisional Managing Director, said: “We are delighted with the response to our proposals, with the many members of the local community having expressed interest in Retirement Living Apartments. In addition to providing housing more suited to the needs of the elderly, our proposals would therefore free up the local family homes from which new residents would come.

“We were thrilled to still be able to offer so many people the opportunity to see our plans and are pleased with the positive responses we have received.”

McCarthy Stone is an increasingly popular choice for the retired population and feedback from existing owners confirms this, with 9 out of 10 clients saying their new property has improved their quality of life. Apartments can also help with loneliness, with 83% of customers saying they feel a sense of community in their new home and 91% saying they
have good access to local amenities.
